Sculpt Yourself Part 1

Do you wish your cheekbones were more defined or your forehead were a little shorter? Have you wondered how to make your face look less round?

One of the easiest makeup tricks is to use a bronzer a little deeper in shade than your own skin to sculpt your face.

Today we are going to talk about how to enhance cheekbones. Find the top of your cheekbone, follow it's contour to it's deepest or lowest point, that is where you want to place your bronzer. You may even want to suck in your cheeks to find the hollow area - that's the spot! Grab your contouring brush (angled blush brush) and put a little bronzer on it. Starting on your cheek from just above your earlobe gently sweep the bronzer along the lowest point of your cheekbone in a slightly curved line. Remember to keep the line soft and don't pass the apple (roundest part) of your cheek.

The key here is to create an illusion not an 80's hard core contoured cheek. Blend, blend, blend.... top with your favorite blush on your cheekbone then at the very top of your cheekbone use a highlight color (a light shimmery shade) to bring out your cheekbone.

Elain's favorites for this look are...
Contour: Bronze Beam Star Beam Powder
Blush: Pink Beige Chic Blush
Highlight: Champagne Star Catch Me Powder (this loose powder eye shadow is great for more than just the eyes!)

IMATS 2009

Elain rocked IMATS in Pasadena on June 20th and 21st! Amazing turn out - We are totally excited! Check out more photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/MakeupArtistmag .

The atmosphere at IMATS was electric! Clowns, ghouls, beauties, and much more filled the convention hall as makeup artists worked their magic creating a visual feast. Elain got in on the fun too. We had the privilege to partner with Hair and Makeup Network with our very own Elain Cosmetics gracing the face of a model for a makeup artist magazine. Above you can see the beautiful results along with our booth display. We cannot wait to be a part of this awesome event in 2010.

Hot Beauty Tricks

With spring in full bloom and summer hot on it's heels, here are a few quick beauty tips to help you get through the heat.

~Switch up your moisturizer from a cream to a light lotion - don't forget to pick one with an SPF!

~Use a tinted moisturizer or a lighter formula foundation instead of a full coverage foundation - try Elain's Perfect Finish Foundation which is a unique water-based formula, perfect for the hot weather.

~Put your lipsticks in the refrigerator to keep them cool (and to keep them from spoiling) and pull out a sizzling lipgloss - Elain Bijou Beam comes in 12 shades to express your every mood!

~Pump up the volume of your lashes with a waterproof mascara like Elain's 3D Electric Lash - it'll keep those peepers fresh all day on land or in water.

~Put your toner in the fridge so you can refresh your skin when you start to wilt.

~Wear some good shades and a wide brimmed hat to keep your skin safe.

Make it your season - enjoy life - knock 'em dead!

Hot Pink and Sizzling Coral

Oh yes! Winter has passed and spring has sprung!

I love the vibrancy of spring especially when it comes to makeup. As brilliant flowers are blooming and energetic birds are singing, our makeup also begins to come alive again!

Dust off your happy colors, those colors that bring life to your skin, and create some fun spring looks. The beauty of hot pink and coral is that they are colors whose undertones can be found in the skin... that means everyone can wear them!

An easy and quick way to add these colors into your makeup repertoire is to wear a brighter lipgloss. Let Elain Cosmetics perk up your lips with long wearing Sugar Brown Bijou Beam (coral) or Pink Passion Bijou Beam (hot pink).

If you really want to up the amp, pop some coral blush on your cheeks. Combining coral and pink on the eyes creates an amazing effect too. Makeup is the easiest and most versatile accessory we ladies have... live it up!!

Break out with the Blues

photo courtesy of InStyle.com - Marley Shelton

Ah Spring! The world comes bursting to life with a cacophony of sounds and colors. Everything is new again inspiring us to make a change. Make that change by breaking out of the boring brown or black eyeliner - look to break out with the blues!

Blue? Fear not! Blue can be worn by anyone and worn well. Try these ideas:

~For those women whose skin tone is darker try a teal blue or deep turquoise like our Duet Eyeliner in Blue.

~If your eyes tend toward an orangey brown... a cobalt blue will make your eyes pop!

~Blue eyed already? Smoke a lovely mid tone blue like Catch Me Powder in Blue Star close to the lashline, try it with a soft silver eyeliner for extra sparkle.

~For a nice variation try a little blue shadow smudged just under the corner of your lower lashline - try Elain's Electric Eyes in Love Cleo.

~Shift your blue toward the green a little with Indigo Dream Electric Eyes.

Be bold! Try something new and experiment - makeup is a flexible and fun accessory!
