Learn to "Makeup" From a PRO!

"What color eye shadow goes with my eye color?"
A simple guideline to make your eyes sparkle!

http://www.elaincosmetics.com/press.html

Many women have problems finding the right eye shadow colors to compliment their eye color. Here are some tips from our professional makeup artists that are easy for everyone to follow, and that will help you get a beautiful look just for you! First of all, look in the mirror and identify your eye color, then go with the following guideline to find your eye shadow colors.

Blue or Bluish Gray Eyes: Silver or Brown eye shadow to compliment your eye colors.

Tips: using Elain’s Silver Sparkle Stick as eye shadow base topped with Silver Catch Me Eye Shadow, or Elain’s Mocha Bronze Sparkle Stick as eye shadow base under Bronze Star Catch Me Eye Shadow.

Green Eyes: Purple or Brown eye shadow to compliment your eye colors.

Tips: using Elain’s Violet Sparkle Stick underneath Violet Star Catch Me Eye Shadow then finish the look with Duet Eyeliner in Purple. For a more dramatic effect, use red undertones like those found in our Bronze Power Electric Eye duo.

Brown Eyes:

Brown eyes are fun because they have different undertones to them. Look in the mirror and identify the dominant undertone in your eye (what color do you see in the brown?)
a) If you see a Golden Yellow undertone: Purple or Green Gold eye shadow.

Tips: Purple Star Catch Me Eye Shadow. If you would prefer gold tones, try our Passion Bond Electric Eyes Duo on top of Gold Sparkle Stick.
b) If you see an Orange undertone: Blue eye shadow

Tips: use Elain Aqua Sparkle Stick lightly underneath Elain’s Love Cleo or Indigo Dream Electric Eye’s duo.
c) If you see a Dark Brown undertone: Green eye shadow

Tips: Olive Green Sparkle Stick all over the eyelid topped with Green Star Catch Me Eye Shadow, highlight your brow bone with Champagne Star Catch Me Powder. To really make the look complete, use Elain’s Olive Green Duet Eyeliner.

Hazel Eyes:

Hazel eyes are a mixture of yellow, green, and brown. Every hazel eye will have a different combination of those colors so you’ll want to choose whether you want your eyes to look more yellow or green then follow the guide above.

Remember, makeup is an art, your face is the canvas – have fun, be bold, and try some new colors!

Elain Fall Trend Report 09

Fall ’09 blew in with intense passion. A virtual feast for the eyes as models rocked smokey shades ranging from teal to amethyst. Fingers were adorned with inky black nails tinted with everything from gold to pink and eyebrows arched with attitude. When the eyes weren’t smoking, they were barely there and the lips took center stage in shades of rich burgundy and jet black backed by flawless skin.

How do we translate fall trend into everyday wear? Consider which feature you want to emphasize then be bold. Think intensity as in a blended, bold smokey eye done in teal. Start by putting Elain’s Olive Green Sparkle Stick all over the eyelid up into the crease then pack on the dark blue from Electric Eyes Love Cleo duo fading the edges up and out with your blending brush – don’t forget to smudge some under your lower lashes. Line your eyes with Duet Eyeliner in Black using the pencil inside the inner rim of your eyes and along the upper lashline to increase the intensity. Finish off with two coats of 3-D Electric Lash on both upper and lower lashes. Voila!

If you really want to create the black lip but are afraid to go all the way… try this: Using Duet Eyeliner pencil in Black, gently line your lips and smudge the black inward leaving the center of your lip color showing then top it with Sexy Rouge Bijou Beam blending well.

As always, don’t bend yourself to trend, make trend work for you. Until next time…

Sculpt Yourself Part 2

Noses are our topic today... Aside from plastic surgery, is there a way to change the shape of your nose? As a matter of fact there is!

Let's say your nose is wide and you want it to be slimmer. Get two concealers : one that is one or two shades darker than your skin tone and one that is a shade or two lighter. Now that you have your tools kkep in mind that your main objective is to blend well.... this is essential to create a beautiful illusion.

Remember that dark colors recede and light colors lift so you will want to stripe your darker concealer on either side of your nose (not on your face, on your nose) and the lighter shade down the bridge of your nose. Carefully blend the darker shade out along the sides of your nose then gently blend the lighter shade right along the top of your nose. If you do not like creamy products, you can also use face powders like Elain's Absolute Powder following the same color principles.

*This can be done after you have put on your foundation and it is best to set it all with Perfect Finish Powder at the end. This will take some practice but when done properly, it will yield beautiful results! Let us know how it worked for you.

Sculpt Yourself Part 1

Do you wish your cheekbones were more defined or your forehead were a little shorter? Have you wondered how to make your face look less round?

One of the easiest makeup tricks is to use a bronzer a little deeper in shade than your own skin to sculpt your face.

Today we are going to talk about how to enhance cheekbones. Find the top of your cheekbone, follow it's contour to it's deepest or lowest point, that is where you want to place your bronzer. You may even want to suck in your cheeks to find the hollow area - that's the spot! Grab your contouring brush (angled blush brush) and put a little bronzer on it. Starting on your cheek from just above your earlobe gently sweep the bronzer along the lowest point of your cheekbone in a slightly curved line. Remember to keep the line soft and don't pass the apple (roundest part) of your cheek.

The key here is to create an illusion not an 80's hard core contoured cheek. Blend, blend, blend.... top with your favorite blush on your cheekbone then at the very top of your cheekbone use a highlight color (a light shimmery shade) to bring out your cheekbone.

Elain's favorites for this look are...
Contour: Bronze Beam Star Beam Powder
Blush: Pink Beige Chic Blush
Highlight: Champagne Star Catch Me Powder (this loose powder eye shadow is great for more than just the eyes!)

Hot Pink and Sizzling Coral

Oh yes! Winter has passed and spring has sprung!

I love the vibrancy of spring especially when it comes to makeup. As brilliant flowers are blooming and energetic birds are singing, our makeup also begins to come alive again!

Dust off your happy colors, those colors that bring life to your skin, and create some fun spring looks. The beauty of hot pink and coral is that they are colors whose undertones can be found in the skin... that means everyone can wear them!

An easy and quick way to add these colors into your makeup repertoire is to wear a brighter lipgloss. Let Elain Cosmetics perk up your lips with long wearing Sugar Brown Bijou Beam (coral) or Pink Passion Bijou Beam (hot pink).

If you really want to up the amp, pop some coral blush on your cheeks. Combining coral and pink on the eyes creates an amazing effect too. Makeup is the easiest and most versatile accessory we ladies have... live it up!!

~Blue eyed already? Smoke a lovely mid tone blue like Catch Me Powder in Blue Star close to the lashline, try it with a soft silver eyeliner for extra sparkle.

~For a nice variation try a little blue shadow smudged just under the corner of your lower lashline - try Elain's Electric Eyes in Love Cleo.

Sexy Cat Eyeliner: Back In Style

Prrr-fect! The cat eye has returned....... all over the Spring runways eyeliner ala Bridget Bardot abounded. Super sexy with a strong lip and groomed brows or sophisticated by emphasizing the contour of the eyelid and wearing a fleshy colored lipstick. In some cases the liner was playfully applied to the crease of the eye instead of the lashline. Color made a showing in eyeliners too making the options even more fun.

If you want to achieve the cat eye, use Elain Duet Eyeliner starting with the pencil. Line right along your lashline slightly extending the line outside the edge of the eye winging it out. Next go right over the pencil with the liquid to intensify the look.

How to Make Your Eyes Pop - Eyeliner and Your Eyes

How to Make Your Eyes Pop - (I) Eyeliner and Your Eyes

Makeup is a great way to express your mood, it is not permanent so you can change it as often as you like. You can change it by seasonal trend or according to your outfit - whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

One thing that can help you out is understanding your face - what is your best or favorite feature? Maximize that strength and build around it. Many women love to focus on their eyes but are not sure how to use eyeliner to make the eyes luminous. Let's start there.

Catherine Zeta Jones plays up her lovely honey colored eyes, upping the drama by rimming them with a smoky liner.

What about you...

1. If your eyes are close set (close together) - Line your upper lashline partially, start your line about the inside edge of your iris and slightly widen the line toward the outer corner of your eye, finishing just past the edge of your eye.

2. If your eyes are wide set (farther apart) - Starting at the inner corner of your lashline, begin with a slightly wide line and gradually taper it as you move to the outer corner of your eye. Stop your line just where the outer corner of the eye stops.

3. If your eyes are small - Keep your eyeliner close to the lashline and really emphasize the outer corner of your upper and lower lid to draw the attention outward.

4. If your eyes and eyelids are round - Use a thicker eyeliner all the way across the eyelid with the outer corner a bit fuller to create an illusion of less eyelid which helps bring visual balance.

5. If you have Asian eyes - On your upper lashline, begin by drawing a thin line starting at the inside corner and gradually thicken it as you near the outer corner. Finish by bringing the edge of the liner slightly beyond the end of your lashline.

You may choose to use a pencil or liquid. Whichever you choose, go ahead and play up those eyes! If you can't decide...try our Elain Duet Eyeliner which has both a pencil and a liquid liner in one product. Enjoy!

Classic Marilyn Monroe ala Elain

Marilyn Monroe is an American icon. Her sultry style mixed with innocence has been imitated the world over. Here we have recreated her most famous makeup look using Elain Cosmetics. The basic elements are a soft white eyelid, a neutral crease, strong black eyeliner, a dramatic arched brow, bold lips, and of course, the famous beauty mark.

We used our Silver Sparkle Stick as a base with Silver Star Catch Me Powder over it.
Passion Bond Electric Eyes was blended through the crease and slightly up on the brow bone. The lashline was defined with Duet Eyeliner in Black then finished with two coats of Luscious Lashes.

A sweep of Peach Beige Chic Blush onto the cheeks and Sexy Rouge Bijou Beam on the lips completes the look. The final touch is a light dusting of our ultra silky Absolute Powder.
